One of two survivors of a Riverside small plane crash has died in the hospital from complications from her burns, according to a news report.
Stacey Pierce was one of two survivors of a Feb. 27 plane crash that claimed the lives of her mother and stepfather — Dana Hijazi, 67, and Nouri Hijazi, 83, of San Jose — and a family friend, Adine Farelas, 22. The group was returning to San Jose after attending a cheerleading competition at Disneyland where Pierce’s 12-year-old daughter was a competitor.
The plane took off from Riverside Municipal Airport and crashed into two homes on Rhonda Avenue in Riverside. No one was at home in either house at the time of the crash. Stacey Pierce was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in critical condition with burns over 90 percent of her body.
Silvia Farelas, 46, mother of Adine Farelas, suffered only minor injuries and was initially treated at Riverside Community Hospital. She was later transferred to a San Jose area hospital and is recovering from her injuries.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the plane crash.
