An 11-year-old Corona girl suffered major injuries after the car she was riding in collided with a California Highway Patrol vehicle, according to a news report.
The California Highway Patrol said that the girl was in the back seat of a Mitsubishi Mirage traveling north on Green River Road in the fast lane when a CHP cruiser that was in the slow lane hit it. According to the CHP, the officer swerved to the left for reasons still being investigated and struck the Mirage on the front passenger’s side. Investigators reported that both vehicles were going approximately 20 mph when the accident happened.
The unidentified victim was riding in the back seat and had to be cut from the wreckage by firefighters. She was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana in critical condition. The male driver and a nine-year-old girl in the front seat were not injured.
The CHP officer involved in the wreck was also not injured, and rendered aid to the victims at the scene.
