A 27-year-old Placentia man with two prior DUI convictions has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal Laguna Niguel pedestrian accident in February that killed Mara Steves of Laguna Niguel and injured two occupants of another car, according to a news report.
Adam Harrison Hall has also been charged with DUI causing bodily injury and sentencing enhancements for causing injury to more than one person. If convicted, he faces a prison sentence of 21 years to life.
Prosecutors say that Hall was under the influence of a number of drugs – including methamphetamine, morphine, pain killers, anti-anxiety pills, muscle-relaxers, insomnia medication and other drugs – when he drove through a red light, crashed into a SUV, drove over the curb and struck Steves, who was attending to a stray dog.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals later honored Steves, who was well known in the Laguna Niguel community, for her efforts in helping the lost dog.
