Motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson is issuing a worldwide recall of more than 300,000 motorcycles because of a defect in the rear brake light switch, according to a news report.
Company officials said the recall involves certain 2009-2012 Touring and Trike models because of a rear brake light switch that may be exposed to excessive heat from the exhaust system, causing the switch to activate or deactivate improperly. The company said the defect might also cause a fluid leak in the brake switch.
Approximately 250,000 of the recalled units are from the U.S. and 50,000 overseas, according to the company. Harley-Davidson said the cost of the fix to the company would be $10 million to $12 million.
