The Ortega Highway on Monday morning was the scene of a fatal truck accident as two pickup trucks collided head-on, killing one of the drivers.
A 38-year-old man from South Gate man driving a 1999 Dodge Ram truck died when, according to the California Highway Patrol, a 2016 Dodge Ram travelling west on Ortega veered across the double yellow lines into eastbound traffic causing a head-on collision. The two pickup trucks collided before 6 a.m. near Caspers Wilderness Park.
The driver of the 1999 truck died, while his passenger, a 30-year-old man from Los Angeles, was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with major injuries.
The driver of the 2016 truck had minor injuries and was taken to Mission Hospital as well.
