A chain reaction crash involving eight vehicles in Huntington Beach has claimed the life of one man and injured four other people, according to a news report.
Huntington Beach police said that the chain reaction crash at Hamilton Avenue and Brookhurst Street started when a car traveling east on Hamilton struck another vehicle exiting a church parking lot. That crash triggered a number of other vehicles crashing into each other, including one vehicle that was hit, spun and then accelerated over curb and through shrubbery before hitting a retaining wall and several parked cars.
There were two homeless men in the bushes that the vehicle drove through, and one of those men was killed. The other man was taken to a local hospital with major injuries. The three other injured people included a 78-year-old Huntington Beach woman, a 41-year-old Huntington Beach woman and an 8-year-old girl.
The cause of the initial crash is still being investigated, including which vehicle had the right of way.
