Five Orange County teens returning home from a trip to Knott’s Scary Farm perished in a deadly car accident on I-5 in Irvine, according to a news report.
The California Highway Patrol said that a 1995 BMW sedan driven by Bradley Morales, 16, of Laguna Niguel, was traveling south on I-5 when it veered off the freeway near the 133 toll road and went up an embankment. Morales was thrown from the car, which then burst into flames.
Five passengers in the sedan died at the scene, including Jennifer Bahena, 14, of Laguna Hills; Jennifer Campos, 15, of Aliso Viejo; Matthew Ivan Melo, 15, of Mission Viejo; Brandon Alejandro Moreno, 14, of Mission Viejo; and Alejandro Sotelo, 14 of San Juan Capistrano. Morales was taken to Mission Hospital in serious condition.
CHP investigators said that it appeared speed may have been a factor in the tragic crash; in addition, it was reported that Morales did not have a drivers’ license.
