A 41-year-old Newport Beach man has been hospitalized with head injuries following a bicycle accident, according to a news report.
Newport Beach police said that the unidentified man was riding his bicycle east on Westcliff Drive when he collided with a GMC Yukon SUV just before Rutland Road. The bicyclist was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The male driver of the GMC Yukon and a male passenger were uninjured.
The cause of the bicycle accident is currently under investigation. Investigators have said neither alcohol nor drugs appears to be a contributing factor in the incident.
