One woman has been injured after a mixed breed dog attacked a group of three riders and their horses in O’Neill Regional Park in Trabuco Canyon, according to a news report.
O’Neill Park rangers said that a group of three riders on Icelandic horses were descending from a trail peak when a dog believed to be a boxer mix attacked the group. One of the riders, Sandie Weaver, was thrown from her horse and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The three horses were also injured, including two that sustained bite wounds.
One of the riders, Helga Thordarson of Trabuco Canyon, told park officials that the dog attack lasted for approximately five minutes. The riders attempted to beat the dog with their riding crops, but the dog would not stop until one of the horses fought back. Following the attack, Thordarson said she approached the dog’s owner but was provided with false contact information, so has been unable to contact the woman to have the dog checked for rabies.
Thordarson posted a photo of the dog and owner on Facebook and has asked anyone who might know them to contact park officials.
