An unidentified cyclist was struck and critically injured in a hit and run accident in Orange County, California. The fifty-three year old man was apparently going north on Magnolia Street in Garden Grove, California, when he was struck by a vehicle headed east on Chapman Avenue. The time of the accident is assumed to be close to midnight.
Passersby noticed the man lying in the street and summoned police to the area; responding officers found him near his mangled bike, lying on the ground, bleeding. Fire emergency responders took the unconscious man to the hospital where he is being treated for serious head injuries and a broken leg.
By the time the injured man was discovered, the driver of the vehicle who struck him was nowhere to be seen. According to investigators, they currently have no witnesses to the actual accident, though a small red vehicle was seen in the area around the time of the incident.
