A 72-year-old San Diego man has died and a Newport Beach man has been injured in a two-car accident on the 405 Freeway in Seal Beach, according to a news report.
The California Highway Patrol said that Edmundo Ritarita was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer south on the 405 Freeway when he collided with a 2014 Mercedes C250 driven by a 79-year-old Newport Beach man near the 7th Street on-ramp in Seal Beach.
The crash caused the Explorer to travel out of control onto the dirt shoulder and down an ice plant embankment. The Explorer flipped several times; Ritarita was pronounced dead at the scene. The unidentified Newport Beach man sustained minor injuries.
Investigators said that one of the vehicles made an unsafe lane change, but it was yet to be determined which vehicle made the change.
