When Los Angeles Police responded to a call reporting a man with a gun, they immediately found themselves in a high speed pursuit of several men in a car. The suspects very quickly tossed two handguns out of the window of the moving vehicle.
Sometime later, the driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed into six year old Kayla Woods, who was playing in her front yard with friends. Kayla was struck with enough force that the car’s airbags deployed; she was pinned between the car and a brick wall.
Three men jumped out of the car and fled through the neighborhood. Kayla was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died of her injuries.
Police were able to catch and arrest two of the men immediately. They discovered the driver much later, hiding in a trash can. He is facing charges of vehicular homicide.
The question Kayla’s family should be asking is if Kayla would be alive today if the police hadn’t engaged in a dangerous high-speed pursuit.
