A 17-year-old Gilbert High School student has been hospitalized in critical condition after he was hit by a pickup truck while skateboarding on an Anaheim sidewalk, according to a news report.
Anaheim police said that the unidentified teen was skateboarding on the north sidewalk on West Ball Road when he was hit by a Ford F-250 pickup truck. According to witnesses, the truck driver was traveling east on West Ball Road when he shot across all lanes of traffic and up onto the sidewalk before hitting a brick wall and overturning.
The teenager and the pickup truck driver were both taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange in critical condition. The teen suffered an injured left leg and a torn aorta.
An investigation into what caused the pickup driver to lose control is underway. Police said he may have pressed on the gas pedal instead of the brake.
