A 17-year-old boy was struck and killed while he was pushing a car in the 2800 block of West Cerritos Avenue in Anaheim, according to a news report.
Anaheim police said that Juan Daniel Barboza and his 35-year-old cousin were pushing a Honda Civic off the street because it was street sweeping day when a Honda Ridgeline truck hit the Civic and Barboza from behind. The cousin was able to jump out of the way in time; Barboza’s mother, who was steering the Civic, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition with head injuries. Barboza, a junior at Magnolia High School, was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
Authorities said the driver of the Ridgeline was not immediately arrested or cited, and remained at the scene to speak with investigators. Police did not know yet whether speed or alcohol was a factor in the fatal accident.
