Three people have been killed and at least four others injured in a high-speed crash on I-5 in Commerce, according to a news report.
The California Highway Patrol said that a Dodge Charger and a Dodge Challenger were racing each other in the southbound lanes of I-5 near the Washington Boulevard exit. When one of the Dodges tried to get around a slower vehicle, it slammed into a UPS big-rig. The big-rig lost control, went airborne and landed on the center divider, shearing off the top of a Nissan Sentra and catching fire.
The driver of the UPS big-rig — Scott Treadway of Mira Loma — and the back seat occupants of the Nissan Sentra were pronounced dead at the scene. One of those victims has been identified as Michelle Littlefield, 19, who had just spent the day with friends at Disneyland and was returning home. The Nissan driver and front passenger were hospitalized in critical condition.
The driver of the Dodge Challenger — Dealio Lockhart, 35, of Whittier — was arrested after admitting to street racing; the driver of the Dodge Charger fled the scene.
