Corona resident John Howe Jr., 57, was hit and killed by a Desert Hot Springs patrol car as he was crossing the street, according to a Press-Enterprise article.
California Highway Patrol investigators said that Howe was not in a crosswalk when he was hit crossing Palm Drive between Desert View and Cahuila Avenues. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP Officer Chip Prieto said that the officer who ran into Howe was driving his 2008 Crown Victoria patrol car approximately 45 mph in a 35 mph zone on his way to a call. Prieto said, “It was not a Code 3 (with lights and sirens). I don’t know what the call was.”
