A Costa Mesa man identified Tuesday as 39-year-old Donato Lopes Gonsalez, was the victim of a fatal workplace accident while he was tending to a large palm tree in Huntington Beach last Sunday.
Gonsalez died after suffering high-voltage electrocution while tree trimming. He was working on removing a frond from the palm tree when the frond hit a power line, according to police.
A 911 call was placed at approximately 11:20 a.m. to report that a man was hanging from the tree unconscious in the 8000 block of Seaport Drive near Beam Circle. Police and fire officials retrieved Gonsalez from the tree, but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The death is currently under investigation.
