Four people were injured Sunday in San Clemente, CA when the driver of a pick-up slammed into a meridian before hitting several parked cars and then two cyclists and a pedestrian. At least two of the people struck were airlifted from the scene and at least one is in critical condition.
The pickup driver, a man in his 30s, was heading east on Camino de Los Mares at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle. The condition of the driver is currently unknown other than that he was taken to the hospital.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Reconstruction Team is currently investigating the situation.
It has also not yet been determined whether alcohol or other impairments were a factor in the incident. Braun said MART personnel are currently interviewing witnesses, and details of the incident may not be readily available until later.
