The man suspected of killing another man with his vehicle in Santa Ana before fleeing the scene was arrested last Friday.
The suspect, Juan Carlos Alcantara (47) was reported by a bystander to have run over a man who was lying on the street next to a blanket. A witness claimed that a the vehicle struck the man in the street before stopping momentarily and then speeding off.
Originally, the Orange County Police Department had stated that Alcantara had turned himself in, however a press release that came out after the initial claim stated that a woman had called the police to tell them that she knew the hit-and-run driver. She provided police with Alcantara’s name, address and a description of his vehicle.
Police do not currently suspect Alcantara of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol who claimed that he fled due to panicking.
