Two people were killed and another person was injured in a two-car collision on Buena Vista Street in Hemet.
The Hemet Police Department said that Hemet residents Margaret Avina, 33, and Nicholas Macias, 22, were in Volkswagen driven by Macias, who was driving at high speeds westbound on Whittier Avenue when he ran a stop sign at Buena Vista Street and hit a Dodge pickup truck. Both Avina and Macias were pronounced dead at the scene.
The male driver of the Dodge truck was not injured; his female passenger sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities investigating the fatal crash said that both drivers may have been impaired by alcohol. The investigation is ongoing.
