Norman Rest of Laguna Beach died following a tragic E-bike accident near Canyon View Drive and Buena Vista Way on Monday.
First responders arrived at the scene of the fatal bike accident at approximately 5:46 p.m. after receiving a report of a downed bicyclist. Rest, 73, was found bleeding significantly after apparently colliding with a dumpster.
As paramedics attempted to tend to Rest’s injuries, he went into full cardiac arrest and was taken to Providence Mission Hospital Mission Viejo. According to police, Rest was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A beloved member of the Laguna Beach community, Rest, along with his wife Debra Kottke, co-founded the Lido Paddle Project. The non-profit organization serves veterans and first responders by promoting mental wellness through stand-up paddleboarding.
Rest’s fatal E-bike accident is currently under investigation.
