A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 14th in Long Beach.
Police report that the car struck the victim about 12:25 p.m. at the intersection of Cherry Ave. and 37th Street. The man suffered major injuries and died at the scene, but his identify has not been released at this time.
The male driver of a white Honda Accord was taken to a hospital where he was assessed for injuries.
Police say the driver of the Honda was traveling in the number two lane heading north on Cherry Avenue prior to the crash. He reportedly looked down and his vehicle drifted right and struck the pedestrian who was walking in the street near the east curb of Cherry Avenue.
The vehicle hit the pedestrian and then it kept traveling up onto the sidewalk where it struck other objects.
The crash is currently under investigation and police are asking for witnesses of the fatal pedestrian accident to contact them at (562)570-7355.
