A 79-year-old man has died and another man in his 20s was injured in a three-vehicle crash in Wagon Wheel.
The California Highway Patrol said that the crash happened when a Ford Econoline van traveling west on Oso swerved into oncoming traffic at Bridle Path near Wagon Wheel Elementary School. The van sideswiped a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and then collided head-on with a Nissan Sentra.
The driver of the Nissan Sentra, 79-year-old Melvyn Gruben of Coto de Caza, was pronounced dead at the scene. The van driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Toyota driver was not injured.
The CHP is investigating why the van swerved into oncoming traffic and whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the fatal crash.
