The California Highway Patrol said it received reports of a wrong-way driver on I-5 shortly before the collision occurred on the freeway near Magnolia Avenue. Officers arrived to find a crushed SUV and a damaged Chevy sedan, and reported smelling alcohol at the scene.
One driver was taken to the hospital; the other driver was tested for impairment and later released. The investigation into the wrong-way crash is ongoing.
