A two-year-old girl was tragically killed after being hit by a minivan while riding a scooter in front of an Irvine apartment complex Thursday night, Oct. 27.
Irvine police were alerted to the horrific accident at approximately 8:05 p.m. They soon responded to the Cross Creek Apartments where the fatal crash took place.
According to police, the girl had been riding a scooter on the sidewalk, southbound on Creek Road, when she was struck by the minivan approaching an exit from the complex.
The young girl died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The driver stopped and cooperated with the investigation. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the fatal scooter accident.
The apartment complex sits east of Mike Ward Community Park and just north of Alton Parkway.
The fatal crash occurred more than two weeks after the parents of a 23-month-old girl filed a lawsuit against Amazon, a delivery driver and the Irvine Company following a fatal collision between the girl and a delivery van at another apartment complex in the 300 block of Estancia, Aug. 17.
The suit alleges the driver made an unsafe turn in a “poorly-designed, dangerously-maintained” parking lot and alleyway.
