A U.S. Navy flight surgeon with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing has died from injuries he sustained after being hit by a helicopter rotor blade at Camp Pendleton.
According to military officials, U.S. Navy Lt. James Anthony Mazzuchelli, a 32-year-old flight surgeon for a Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron, was severely injured by a spinning UH-1Y Venom helicopter rotor blade. He died three days later at Scripps La Jolla Medical Facility. Further details on the accident have not been released. The helicopter was reportedly on the flight line at the time of the incident.
Military personnel have initiated an investigation into the accident.
