According to public records compiled by auto insurance companies, over forty percent of all car crashes in the United States occur at intersections. The majority (if not all) of these intersections are equipped with traffic signals or stop signs, which means the cause of the accidents is drivers and pedestrians not paying attention when approaching a busy, dangerous intersection.
A quick perusal of the records shows that a particular dangerous intersection in Orange County, California appears to have been making the list off and on for at least the last ten years. Those of our readers from Huntington Beach, California may not be surprised to see the intersection of Brookhurst and Adams at number six on the list.
Los Angeles, California has the dubious distinction of winning the number one spot with the intersection of Parthenia Street and Resera Boulevard.
The full top ten list for 2009 includes:
- Los Angeles County, California: Corner of Parthenia Street and Resera Boulevard in Northridge.
- Cook County, Illinois: Kennedy Drive and Avenue of the Cities in East Moline.
- Harris County, Texas: 7300 Bellaire at the Southwest Freeway in Houston.

Dangerous intersections are no laughing matter. When a city knows about a dangerous intersection and fails to act to make it safer, lives are needlessly put at risk.
