Maria De La Luz Cruz (62) was tragically killed after a large tree collapsed onto an SUV she was in at Pearson Park in Anaheim on Sunday, Feb. 19.
The fatal accident occurred when a large tree toppled over and crushed a parked SUV. De La Luz Cruz was killed was in the backseat of the SUV which was parked along the 400 block of Harbor Boulevard, on the south side of the park. She was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Police stated that the tree was so large that first responders were having difficulties lifting it off the SUV.
The city has since recovered the tree and a forensic arborist is expected to begin evaluating it this week. An initial assessment on Sunday found no immediate concerns, according to the city.
