A 28-year-old Perris woman has been killed and her one-year-old daughter was injured in a crash with a big-rig on I-10, according to a news report.
The California Highway Patrol said that Barbara Emard and her one-year-old daughter were in a 1998 Ford Expedition on the shoulder of eastbound I-10 near Mesa Drive in Blythe. As she started to accelerate to pull into the traffic lanes, the front tire of a passing 2006 Freightliner big rig blew out, causing the semi to veer to the right and slam into the Expedition.
Emard was taken to an area hospital where she later died. Her one-year-old daughter was in a child safety seat and suffered minor injuries. The semi driver — Curtis Pendegraf, 33, of Houston, Texas — was hospitalized with major injuries.
