A small plane crashed into a Yorba Linda home’s backyard on Sunday killing five people.
The Cessna 414A had just departed the Fullerton Municipal Airport and flown about 10 miles when a yet to be determined incident lead to the plane falling from the sky trailing flames.
The pilot of the plane, as well as four people on the ground, died as a result of the crash. A firefighter on the scene also required treatment of minor injuries.
The home that was struck burst into flames which then spread to a neighboring home.
Witnesses of the crash stated that the people living in the home that was struck were hosting a Superbowl party at the time. Two men and two women in the house were killed along with the pilot of the plane. Witnesses also report seeing people running out of the house and screaming for friends and family members that they couldn’t find.
One neighbor, Tony Tomminelli, said he heard an explosion from up above. “I walked outside and I look up and I just see debris flying everywhere. Part of a plane, which I guess eventually was the motor, flew down into the garage like a torpedo – just hit the garage and blew up,” he said.
Flaming wreckage from the airplane crash was found throughout the neighborhood. The aircraft’s fuselage came to rest in a residential backyard. In one video, a man could be seen using a garden hose to extinguish a flaming piece of wing in the street.
