Officials identified the man who died in a car crash on the 5 Freeway near the border of Laguna Hills and Lake Forest as Randall King.
The fatal car accident occurred when a BMW was traveling south, then stopped abruptly near El Toro Road at about 12:40 p.m. Saturday. Immediately behind the BMW was a Honda and behind that was a Subaru, driven by Mr. King. Both managed to stop in time, but a Ford that was behind Mr. King did not stop in time and slammed into his Subaru.
Mr. King was rushed to Mission Hospital, where he tragically died from his injuries. It was later that he was identified as Randall King, 71, of Ojai.
While authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash they are still trying to determine what caused the BMW to stop suddenly on the freeway. Police haveasked anyone with information regarding the collision to call the California Highway Patrol (CHP) at 949-487-4000.
Initial reports that up to five vehicles and a person who jumped into traffic were involved in the incident were based off of preliminary reports that were either under investigation as of Monday evening, or inconsistent with the facts gleaned by investigators. According to the CHP, no pedestrian was killed in the crash.
