A 38-year-old Riverside woman who pleaded guilty to hit and run manslaughter in the death of an Irvine bicyclist has been sentenced to three years in prison, according to a news report.
Patricia Ann Izquieta was driving under the influence of prescription drugs in December of 2009 when she hit 49-year-old Donald Murphy while he was bicycling with two friends in Newport Beach. She failed to stop, dragging Murphy’s bike under her car for more than a mile.
Murphy, an Irvine civil engineer, husband and father of two, died the next day of severe head and neck injuries. Izquieta was found to be under the influence of methadone and Clonazepam when the accident occurred.
