Over the weekend, a motorcyclist died from injuries after being ejected from his bike, then struck by a hit-and-run motorist, police said.
Ruben Rodriguez Banuelos, a 22-year-old resident of Rancho Cucamonga, was positively identified as having perished in the crash, the Orange County Coroner’s Office reported.
According to the Newport Beach Police Department, the crash was just before 2 a.m. Sunday on Irvine Avenue near Santa Isabel Avenue in Newport Beach.
The motorcycle, driven by Rodriguez Banuelos, crashed into the raised center median and landscaping on the east side of the road causing him to be ejected.
Banuelos landed on the west side of the road, which is technically Costa Mesa, where he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
The cause of Banuelos’ initial crash is not currently known.
Rodriguez Banuelos was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana. He was pronounced dead two hours after the crash.
