Tragedy for a family of four in Irvine when a 44-year old mother was killed and a father and two teenage children were injured when they were struck by a car while out for an evening walk. The vehicle was driven by suspected drunk driver, Kamal Attoh, in Irvine Wednesday night, May 16.
The teenagers sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the father, 49, was airlifted to a local hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
Attoh was driving along Ridgeline Drive in Irvine when, for reasons unknown, he drove up onto the sidewalk, striking the family who had been walking from a local Irvine park.
Kim Mohr, a spokeswoman for the Irvine Police Department, said that about 8 p.m. Wednesday, Irvine police and Orange County Fire Authority firefighters responded to an accident on Ridgeline Drive and discovered four pedestrians had been struck.
Attoh, a 37-year-old Irvine resident, who stayed at the scene, was arrested later in the evening on suspicion of driving under the influence and is still in police custody.
