Three men in their 20s have been killed and two people were critically injured in a head-on collision in San Juan Capistrano, according to a news report.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said the driver of a Ford Focus was traveling north on Camino Capistrano when he crossed the double yellow line and crashed head-on into a Honda Accord. The driver of the Ford — Sergio Lugo, 23 — and one of his passengers — Jesus Gutierrez, 26 — were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda — Guillermo Enrique Belman-Sanchez, 22 — was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers in the Honda — identified as a man and a woman in their 20s — sustained critical injuries and were taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. A dog riding in the Honda also died in the crash.
Investigators said they were waiting on the results of toxicology reports to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the fatal crash.
