A man who stopped to aid a driver who had crashed into a wall was killed along with the driver he sought to help on the 22 freeway in Garden Grove.
The California Highway Patrol said that a 2008 Saturn traveling west on the 22 freeway crashed into the right-hand wall of the Brookhurst Street off-ramp. The driver of a 2017 Nissan witnessed the crash and pulled over to help. As both men stood outside their vehicles, they were run over by a 2004 Toyota. Both died at the scene; the Saturn driver was identified as Santiago Sanjuan-Mancilla, 42, of Stanton, and the Nissan driver was identified as Bryce Campo, 19, also of Stanton.
An investigation into the crashes is underway; investigators said they do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal accident.
