Orange County police reported that a woman who was walking along the I-5 south near Las Pulgas Road and was hit by at least one vehicle and killed around 4:40 a.m Thursday morning.
Prior to the accident several drivers reported seeing the woman walking dangerously close to traffic.
Officers were running a traffic break in the area when the woman was struck by a vehicle and killed, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The fatal accident slowed traffic which resulted int two big rigs colliding a little less than an hour later.
“You had the traffic slowing from the fatal, the first big rig slowed to about 45 mph and the second big rig comes behind it and doesn’t recognize the amount of speed that is being reduced and hits the back of a flatbed big rig that’s hauling what looks to be steel girders,” said CHP Officer Mark Latulippe.
Latulippe stated that the collision sent aluminum kegs of beer carried by the second truck onto the road, spilling beer that will take hours to clean up.
