A was tragically killed after she was struck by multiple vehicles along the Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach on Sunday, Feb. 5. Her death marked the second fatal pedestrian accident on the PCH in Laguna Beach in recent weeks.
According to the Laguna Beach Police Department, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. when the woman was crossing the road near the 30600 block of South Coast Highway, south of Nyes Place, when she was struck several times by oncoming traffic in southbound lanes.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she tragically died from her injuries.
Her identity was immediately released by authorities.
The drivers involved in the fatal pedestrian crash stayed at the scene and drugs and alcohol were not believed to have been involved.
On Jan. 28, Xueyuan Zhang (39) was fatally struck in the 700 block of Coast Highway, near St Ann’s Drive. The driver in that pedestrian accident also stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.
“Coast Highway is owned and operated by Caltrans and we will reach out to them to determine if they can implement additional safety improvements to make the roadway safer for pedestrians,” Laguna Beach Mayor Bob Whalen said in a statement. “We need to hold Caltrans accountable to find safety solutions to avoid more tragic accidents in our City.”
