Police abandoned pursuit of Jose Gelacio Carreravasquez who fled a traffic stop in Orange one minute before he crashed into another vehicle in Santa Ana on Saturday, April 24.
Carreravasquez, in a white Nissan pickup truck, is reported to have taken off when police attempted to stop his vehicle near East Katella Avenue and Wanda Road at 8:20 p.m. Deputies and Orange police briefly chased after his vehicle but terminated the pursuit soon after.
According to police, Carreravasquez was headed south on Tustin Avenue when he ran a red light and struck a van that was headed east on Santa Clara Avenue at 8:25 p.m. Two occupants of the van were rushed to a hospital with major injuries.
Carreravasquez was also treated for injuries suffered during the crash, then arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and evading arrest
