A 66-year-old man was tragically killed Saturday, January 27 when his motorcycle went off the Ortega Highway (Route 76) and crashed into a tree.
According to police, the man was riding a 2018 Harley Davidson Road Glide westbound on the Ortega Highway at approximately3:30 p.m. when he veered to the left, drove off the road and struck a tree near Harolds Road.
The CHP, La Jolla Fire Department, Rincon Fire Department, Pala Fire Department and La Jolla Tribal Police Department all worked to try and save the motorcyclist’s life.
A rescue helicopter was also dispatched to the scene of the motorcycle accident, but tragically, the man was pronounced dead before it arrived. The only information police have released about the man was that he was a 66-year-old from Mission Viejo.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
