Four people were tragically killed in a wrong-way car crash in Chino Hills in the early morning of Sunday, March 19.

The Chino Hills Police Department received multiple 911 calls about a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on the 71 freeway at Central Ave. around 2:30 a.m.

Additional 911 calls were received of a 4 to 5-vehicle fiery wrong-way car crash. One vehicle was reportedly on fire with people trapped inside on the southbound, 71 freeway at Chino Hills Parkway.

An SGT from the California Highway Patrol Rancho Cucamonga station was the first on the scene and attempted to put out the fire and rescue the occupants inside the vehicle but they were tragically unable to put out the blaze or rescue the occupants.

The Chino Valley fire department arrived on the scene and was able to put out the car fire.

A total of four people were pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters and paramedics. One person was transported to a local hospital in an unknown condition.

Their identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
