The driver involved in a tragic Santa Ana crash died while her two passengers were hospitalized early Sunday, Aug. 22. Police suspect alcohol was a factor in the deadly crash.
Police found “numerous containers of alcohol” inside a Ford Edge that was speeding eastbound before slamming into the back of a Toyota Sequoia at the 4800 block of McFadden Avenue, east of Euclid Street, Santa Ana. Upon impact, the Ford traveled onto a sidewalk and struck a utility pole at about 12:15 a.m.
According to police, the driver of the Ford died at the scene. She was identified as Wendy Rosas, 21, of Westminster.
Police state that the two other people riding in the Edge were taken to hospitals. Medical staff said their injuries appeared serious, but not life-threatening as of Sunday morning. The occupants of the Toyota were not hurt.
