Harbor Freight Recalls 1 Million Chainsaws After Power Button Malfunction

Over one million Harbor Freight branded chainsaws have been recalled after injuries were reported when the power button malfunctioned. The chainsaws can fail to shut down when the power switch is turned to the “off” position. The massive recall involves two models of 14-inch electric chainsaws sold under three separate brand names with model numbers 67255 and 61592 painted on the bottom of the chainsaws.

The Portland and One Stop Gardens brand chainsaws are green and black and have “Portland” printed on the blades. The Chicago Electric chain saw is red and black and has “Chicago Electric” printed on the handle.

Sold nationwide both online and at  Harbor Freight Tools stores, at a cost of $50 each per unit, Harbor Freight Tools has received 15 reports of chainsaws continuing to operate after being turned off by the operator, resulting in three laceration injuries, including one serious arm injury.

Consumer Reports hasn’t tested any of the recalled chainsaws. “A recall like this emphasizes how important it is that you wear the right safety gear when you use a chain saw,” says John Galeotafiore, who oversees CR’s testing of outdoor power equipment.

If you own a Harbor Freight chainsaw, you are advised to discontinue using it immediately. Call Harbor Freight Tools at 800-444-3353, email recall@harborfreight.com, or go to Harbor Freight’s website, at harborfreight.com.
