Eight people were injured when a stalled minivan was hit by a Metro Blue Link train in South Los Angeles recently.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the minivan was arrested and booked on suspicion of drunk driving.  All eight people were taken to local hospitals with injuries – two of the eight suffered critical injuries.

Police reports say that the minivan driver was making a right turn when the van became stuck on the tracks.  Both people in the van exited the vehicle, fearing that a train may be approaching, and left the van sitting on the tracks.  Shortly thereafter, a northbound Metro Blue Link train that had just departed the Vernon Station struck the van while going an estimated 30 to 35 miles per hour.
