A man in his late 70s was pulled from his car just minutes before it was hit by an Amtrak train in Fullerton, according to a news report.

The man was driving a Cadillac west on Commonwealth Ave. and apparently ran a red light and was struck by the driver of an SUV in the Basque Ave. intersection.  The collision sent the Cadillac through a fence, across a parking lot and onto the train tracks, according to Fullerton police.

Two employees of the City of Fullerton maintenance department spotted the Cadillac on the tracks and joined several other witnesses in pulling the man from the car before the train hit it.  Fullerton police say the train struck the Cadillac only three minutes after the man was pulled to safety.
