Sunday saw mourners gather to pay their respects to Paul Smith, 64 of Long Beach who died in a traffic collision on Friday while riding his bicycle near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Seal Beach Boulevard.
150 mourners attended the service which took place at the scene of Smith’s accident.
Smith was a recently retired engineer for Boeing and an avid participant and parishioner for the Parkcrest Church. The majority of the work he did for the church centered on youth groups, although his efforts there were not limited to the local community. After Hurricane Harvey struck Texas in 2017, Smith traveled to flood-damaged areas and spent two weeks volunteering to remove rotten wood flooring out of flood-ravaged buildings.
Smith was an avid cyclist and had recently taken part in a 100-mile ride in November.
