In the early hours of Friday morning, a high-speed crash involving a stolen Dodge Charger and a tractor-trailer resulted in four suspects being hospitalized in Los Angeles’ Westlake neighborhood. The incident, which appeared to involve a group of suspected catalytic converter thieves, occurred as they attempted to escape police pursuit.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the collision happened shortly before 4 a.m. when the suspects in the stolen Dodge Charger fled from Rampart Patrol officers on Witmer Street at high speed. The chase escalated quickly, and without warning, the suspects recklessly drove into the intersection at Wilshire Boulevard where they collided with a large tractor-trailer.
The impact was so severe that the vehicle became lodged under the trailer, necessitating the Los Angeles Fire Department’s use of a crane to extricate the trapped suspects from the Charger. The subsequent extraction was a complex operation that underscored the force of the collision.
