In a tragic incident on the 101 Freeway in Studio City, Los Angeles, a promising firefighter recruit met with a fatal accident early Monday morning. Jacob Fuerte, aged 22, was involved in a multi-vehicle collision that resulted in his untimely death.
The Los Angeles City Fire Department released a statement offering condolences to Fuerte’s family and friends, and indicating that information on the memorial service would be announced in due time. The event has cast a somber shadow over the department and the local community.
Following the incident, a solemn procession was organized at around 10 a.m. to transport Fuerte’s body to the coroner’s office. The accident occurred in the northbound lanes of the 101 Freeway near Campo de Cahuenga at approximately 5 a.m., as reported by the California Highway Patrol. Several vehicles were reportedly involved, including the one driven by Fuerte.
According to LAFD Public Information Officer Erik Scott, Fuerte had exited his vehicle, presumably to offer assistance and assess the damage, when another vehicle struck him. Authorities were promptly on the scene, and a SigAlert was issued, leading to the closure of four freeway lanes during the investigation. Despite efforts, Fuerte succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
