A morning collision in Pasadena, California, between a Metro A Line train and a car has resulted in moderate injuries for one motorist and minor injuries to the train conductor. The incident took place at approximately 9:20 a.m. at the intersection of California Boulevard and Raymond Avenue, near the Arroyo Seco Parkway.
Firefighters from Pasadena successfully extricated the female driver, who was alone in her car at the time of the crash. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of her moderate injuries. The train conductor, who sustained minor injuries, received medical attention at the same facility. The accident, however, did not injure any of the roughly 50 train passengers.
Officials are investigating the cause of the accident, using interviews with the driver, train conductor, passengers, and available technology to determine fault.
In previous years, the intersection has been the site of at least two other collisions involving trains, with incidents recorded in 2016 and 2015. These incidents contributed to discussions on transportation safety in the area, most notably during the Pasadena City Council’s consideration of a proposed $400-million over-crossing project at the intersection in 2021. The project was ultimately rejected due to factors such as cost, construction time, and potential traffic disruptions.
