In the early hours of February 20th, a tragic car accident in Encino claimed the life of 16-year-old Destiny Villanueva and left two others injured. Los Angeles Police Department officers, responding to the incident, were caught on camera desperately trying to rescue the teenagers from the engulfed vehicle.
At approximately 12:15 a.m., a Toyota Camry containing three friends was spotted on Balboa Avenue without its lights on. After the police noticed the vehicle, it rapidly accelerated, leading to a high-speed collision with a traffic pole at the intersection of Balboa and Ventura Boulevard.
Footage from the scene showed officers using batons to break the windows of the burning car in an attempt to save the occupants. The driver, an unlicensed 14-year-old, and the front seat passenger, an 18-year-old with a leg injury, were pulled to safety. However, Villanueva, seated in the back, tragically lost her life at the scene.
